I need some coffee. "Need" rather overstates the case. But, in fact, some coffee would be nice about now. Now is about 9:00 pm. Many shy away from coffee at that hour. Not me. Sometimes I have it just before going to bed. In fact, most nights I do.
Twas not always thus. My coffee drinking really only took off about two years ago. Before that, I would drink it at work, but it was too much of a bother to make it at home.... being the only coffee drinker in the house. But I found some coffee that I really like, and it is so good that I instantly gave up adding anything like cream or sugar to it. Prior to that great discovery, I HAD to have the cream thing... even it it was the ersatz powder. Getting rid of the cream liberated my coffee. Now I can have it anywhere... and I do.
Yesterday, I was in the Algiers in Harvard Square. Old-timers will tell you that the Algiers used to be in the basement of the Brattle Theater. And it used to be cheap. But in the Has The World Gone Mad New Millenium, the Brattle Theater is in the basement, and the Algiers is now (probably for the past fifteen years) in the UPSTAIRS...... and, fittingly enough, it is also rather expensive. But it has some of the best coffee in the Square. It used to use those copper machines with big handles to make espresso and had an array of coffee grinding machines too. The grinders are still here.
But first, I must make some coffee.
